loi 2 :HOW AIR POLLUTION IS CONNECTED TO OUR LIVES
How is air pollution connected to health?
-Air pollution has been linked to higher rates of cancer, heart disease, stroke, and respiratory diseases like asthma.
-Inhaling air pollution takes away at least 1-2 years of a typical humans life.
-It has effects as small as burning eyes and itchy throat to as large as breathing problems and death
-Air pollution kills 800 people every hour
-4.2 million deaths were due to air pollution in 2016
- 136,000 people in the US are at risk of disease and premature death because of air pollution.
-Deaths because of air pollution cost the European Union €161 billion.
What causes all of the are the small particles from air pollution not the gases.
How is air pollution connected to the Environment
-A direct effect of air pollution global warming. Greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, sulphur dioxide, and methane, trap heat in the atmosphere and warms up the earth.
-When sulphur Dioxide and nitrous oxide (which is not a greenhouse gas but still is harmful) are released into the air they combine with water droplets and form acids, which fall down as acid rain. Acid rain can cause harm to crops, animals, and humans.
- Another effect of air pollution is glaciers melting. Air Pollution causes global warming and global warming make ice and glaciers melt.
